The imbalance of educational equality is drawn between the borders of all countries based on purely economics- rich or poor. Education is one of the greatest influence on the lives of people. It's dishearting to continue to see  in the 21st Century that the lack of actions beyond the borders of our America still lacks in rurual communities in Africa. It is our basic responsibility as humans to make sure all children regardless of their geographics are entitled to a free and appropriate education in US and abroad.

My life has changed in a way that I treasure the inputs from American educational system that have allowed for thoughtful choices I been able to make towards my own educational growth. Being in Ethiopia this past year, I come to understand why the need to educate girls is necessary for the balance, sustainability and future of African economy. Girls are untapped human capital and there are many missed opportunities to empower them beyond their sheep and bread making skills. These girls need to be empowered beyond the global glass ceiling. They are hindered by social paradigms that cater to male-dominated culture. It is accepted wisdom that improving the status of girls is a critical lever for developing international economies. Even now in the 21st Century, there is a huge gap between men and women which impedes them becoming productive members of society. I started the Pink Lamp Project which helps narrow the gulf of social stigmas to empower girls through mentoring, education and hygiene support. With success, we have helped 156 underprivileged girls to sustain daily education, social empowerment and provide them with hygiene products.Aside from above concern, a big issue among female students is adequate or lack of bath facilites at educational instituions. This alone is an leading demonstration of an insenstivy culture that dont't value the prescene of girls. PLPsecured funding from USA donors and built an all girls bath facility and dedicated it to Finote Salem Teachers College.

The educational culure is also limited in providing student housing and books. As result, many live in undesriable conditons and are without proper textbooks. The goverment provides a living allowance equivalient to ($15 ) in USA currency for college students. It's not engough to cover food or allows for additinal purchases. In 2012, The Pink Lamp Project will fund-raise and build a ALL GIRLS DORM AND LIBRARY. This will ensure that girls will desire to become future teachers will have free housing and a place to feed their minds.
