Open call for volunteers to travel abroad with EBB

Education Beyond Borders is devoted to closing the education divide through teacher professional development and community education. Our focus is on building the capacity of teachers to lead and build professional learning communities by expanding collegial networks and access to various educational resources, strategies and best practices. Due to the success of our collaborative, participatory design and implementation model, we find ourselves piloting our professional development projects with teachers located in disadvantaged regions in new districts and countries.

This experience allows primarily Canadian teachers to work alongside their peers, to "walk in their shoes." It is the hope and wish of the organizers that the connections established in each year’s journey abroad will continue well beyond the initial contact and well beyond the number of teachers involved. This year, with the variety of advanced stage and pilot projects, we will see the progression of locally trained teachers as part of the leadership/facilitation teams fulfilling our goal of building capacity by creating a self-sufficient and self-administered professional development/learning community.

Depending on the project, we will be looking for facilitators/trainers of Pedagogy/methodologies, ICT use/integration, Education reform/policy & School management, Social/global issues, English Language Acquisition, Special needs, etc. Project specifics and selection process information will be articulated in the next few weeks.

At this time we want to ask for applications for those interesting in volunteering abroad to be part of our facilitation teams. If you are interested, please download, fill in and return this application form (click here) by February 19th, 2012. Thank you.

This project will focus strongly on leadership by our local partner, Edunova, with complete coordination in their hands and with the EBB team acting as facilitating and supporting partners. Our role will be to empower and build capacity with our local partner facilitators, and co-facilitate and support educators in their schools in townships outside of Cape Town.
