Stay tuned for a possible EBB fundraiser in January, 2011 - a chance to gather, learn, and share.
@Mandy, great idea re: EBB in lesson plans. Which course / level are you teaching?

Greetings ... I teach music and drama for the school district; getting my TESL certification next week. Live in Crescent Beach (by White Rock). Has the group met previously or is it new?

hey there folks,
my name is Marla and I am a new member to the teaching profession. I am happy to see that there is a TWB group here in the lower mainland.

I am also involved in a few different community education projects that I wanted to make known, and invite others to participate in if your up for the fun!
The first project that I am involved in is through the Olympic Resistance Network. You may or may not know that we are a network of community groups that are opposed to the destruction and displacement that the Olympics is creating in our communities and environment. As an important focus in our outreach, the Olympic Resistance Network has started up an education committee. Here is a brief run down of the two projects we are currently working on.
The first is to gather/produce/make accessible sets of resources, activities, lesson plans etc, for teachers in BC that will connect the olympics to issues of social, economic, political & environmental concern, both historically and currently. We have already begun to make these available at www.teach2010.org and there are more being added everyday.
The second project is focused on developing a workshop for secondary students that we aim to present in classrooms and community based youth organizations. The goal of the workshop is to provide information regarding a variety of the impacts and concerns related to the Olympics. The objective of doing this is to promote critical thinking skills, informed decision making, and active citizenship. A key component of meeting our objectives is realized through our community partners who are facilitating and creating meaningful opportunities for action and collaboration between youth, in order to express their own concerns as community members regarding the Olympics through visual art, music, and media projects just to name a few.

We are inviting teaching professionals, youth workers, and others connected to youth and youth organizing, to attend a meeting Monday September 28 from 6pm-8pm at Spartacus Books 684 Hastings Street East. During this meeting we plan to present the proposed workshop framework for feedback and development, as well as establish some ground work for those who are interested in supporting the development of youth resistance, whether that be through building and making the teaching resources related to the olympics, bringing the workshop to new audiences, or providing structures/facilitation for the development of youth led projects.
