I taught at the elementary level with the Vancouver School Board and at the elementary and secondary level with the Francophone School Board of British Columbia. Hi Helene,

I'm an elementary teacher in Vancouver, also doing work with EBB to create campus connections. I'm hoping to get something started up at UBC and noticed that you did your M.Ed. in the LLED department. I just graduated from the same program, but with a focus in TESL. Would love to hear about your experiences and how you integrated an overseas teaching practicum with your program. I didn't hear a lot about educational international development opportunities when I went through UBC so I'm working to build that up now while connecting with people in Vancouver who are interested in the same things.

Thanks!
Katharine

Helene - well, I am off to Panama with 20 students in early March. My project is scheduled to start in September. Have a look and let me know what you think: http://liti.ca/

Also - please pass this on to whomever you think might benefit from a program like this. I am recruiting for September. Cheers, Dave

Helene --

I was in your UBC French conversation class a while back! I'm currently doing an M.Ed. in gifted education at UBC and teaching grade 5 part-time in New West. I'm also interested in sustainability education, which fits nicely with the grade 5 IRP on living and non-living resources. Cheers, Carmen

Helene,

I had a very successful time in Panama this August. I have networked and researched sites for my project. I am currently waiting for approval from my school district - I am on the agenda for the October meeting. Until then I will be in holding pattern. Although I would love your help and collaboration - I can't see a way of "making a living" for more than one teacher at this point.

Tell me about your masters research.

Dave

Helene,

I am looking at a one man operation for year 1 (2010) - unless teachers without borders jumps in and makes it a project - whatever that means. I am hoping to speak with Nobel (TWB Pres) soon to discuss ideas. I am thinking of a full time operation in 5 years (we'll see how things develop). As for your involvement - Financially I can only take care of myself by recruiting enough students to remain employed by Sd #22. That is the plan.

I am at a place now where I wait for administrative tape to say yeah/nay.

Yes - let's talk/get together/email. dmfehr@telus.net.

Helene,

Thanks for the action project suggestion - easy and meaningful. I will be using Moodle if I develop the adaptation or WebCT if UBC is willing to adapt. We'll see. Are you into adapting the course for High School?

I am interested in your platform - can I see it somewhere?

The pres of TWB Canada is back from Africa - I hope to hear form him soon. We will discuss turning my ideas/project into a TWB project and/or (I hope) a Central American Centre for TWB.

Cheers,

Dave

Helene,
The plot thickens for me. Developments are fast and furious. I am now needing to develop a Spanish online course (perhaps I will find someone who will share) and I am also developing an online Global Citizenship course. I have stumbled onto the UBC course found at:http://olt.ubc.ca/distance_learning/courses/course_catalog/?CA=31281 - it is awesome. Have a look at it. Perfect - they (UBC) are contemplating giving me access with my students to run a parallel course. Let me know what you think of this course. Very cool I think.

Cheers,

Dave
